One of our most senior cabin owners, Mary Mace Stuart, Cabin 75 at Kidd Cove, died at age 93 on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Mary was born in 1919, the daughter of Arthur and Margaret Mace of Pasadena. Mary was one of the last surviving children whose parents were founders of the Southwest Shore Colony.
Mary was always a cheerful presence for her cabin neighbors, along with her family. Mary was a fixture at any meetings of the Colony, and a very loyal supporter of all Colony causes and activities over the years. She was able to enjoy her visits to the family cabin through last summer, with the loyal assistance of her daughter Robbie. Mary was particularly thrilled last July 4 to attend the Colony’s Centennial Celebration where she spoke at the dinner on behalf of the Founding Families. Those of you who were at the Celebration could not help but be moved by Mary's recollections of the early years of the Colony. She certainly will be missed by her Big Bear neighbors, and we offer our condolences to her family, including her sister, children and grandchildren.
